I was just responding to a question.
That's just one way to look at it. Had Bournemouth or Watford finished 1 point ahead of 3rd, they'd have finished 2nd. That's why it's not straightforward.
Like you say, not this again. It's all been covered in the other thread, so let's leave it in that one.
Yes, as a quick and simple method to show that we could get relegated at the moment, and you basically agree there, so that's cool. I went on to say we could probably win our next two games, and still get relegated. That's true, but the formula needs a little tweaking, as that would put us above...
We do need to finish just (1 point or GD) better than 3rd.
What makes it less straightforward is when you try to come up with an average number of points required based on previous seasons (see other thread for discussion)
I don't doubt that you worked it out in a way that meant we'd stay up on 63 points, but you'd find the other teams points spread out more, whereas I've made it so they all have similar, and that similar is just above us.
In my calculation, we were top after 37 games, and still relegated. You...
If a team has 15 games left, then they can win all of those 15 games, regardless as to whether or not they've already played our 4 losing teams, but yes, it makes it a tiny bit more difficult (from a maths point of view).
Not if I can help it :)
We could win our next two games, and still be...
GT, I'm not guessing.
No it's not. The games against the teams that can lose every match are free wins, that doesn't mean they can't still win against the average teams who only need a few wins to overtake us.
Not really. It's quite simple, I promise.
I'd have done it if someone was willing to...
Wo, don't change the question. Of course it's not going to bloody happen, that's not what anyone was suggesting. The questions was, is it mathematically possible, and you said no.
Damn
Basically, if Hull, 'boro, Bolton and Charlton lose every game, and for every other game the team with the lowest points wins, we'd be in the relegation zone with 4 games to go. We could win our next two games, and still get relegated.
Are you sure? I'm pretty sure it can. Charlton, Bolton, Hull and Middlesbrough can lose all 15 (16) games against other teams. Rotherham need to win 10 and draw 1, they can lose 4. Bristol need to win 8 or 9 - they can lose 6. Huddersfield in 17th only need to win 7, and can lose 7.
3 points vs Cardiff, I have a plan!
We need to pretend to be Cardiff fans on twitter, and let Mr Tan know that we agree with his dressing room pep talk:

Tell him that the game on Saturday is big because it's...
