Which proves my point nicely - you can make excellent AND popular films with the support of a UK independent film body.

In other words, films should be there primarily for commerce, not as an art form. In which case, films like The King's Speech (nor Another Year for that matter) would not be made, and that would be a tragedy.

As a postscript to the comments on The King's Speech (all of which I agree with), has Geoffrey Rush made a bad film? Excellent though Firth is, Rush gets the nod for me in terms of performance. Also, and getting into politics here, the days of films like The King's Speech are now sadly...
