I totally respect your opinion on this but it’s arguable that the reaction to immigration and things like using quotations on the word “refugees” that have emboldened and encouraged the far right. Or more likely perhaps a combination of many things.
It’s a fine and complicated line.
For what...
You quite rightly condemn the Holocaust and in the next post buy into the vilification of an ethnic minority. I find myself wondering of late what certain people would have made of the Jewish refugees in the 1940's or the ones begging for food at the fences of the ghettos.
There are many memorials to all the people murdered by the Nazis in many locations across the globe. I don’t get the impression at all that people on this board only think of the Jews who were murdered.
I think where the article fails is that it blurs the line between ignorance and denial. Are the subjects of the poll outright denying it or have they, unbelievably never heard about it?
The word used is denial. That’s a pretty strong concept and in my frame of reference means only one thing...
I’d like to know the questions. Was it:
Do you know about the holocaust?
No
Okay well ( goes onto explain)
Don’t believe you.
Or was it:
Have you heard of the holocaust?
Yes
Do you believe it happened?
No
Yep, the only person I have ever come across who claims the holocaust is of benefit to the Jewish community.
Next week: What turkeys get out of Christmas.
To be clear 1 in 20 are denying it. Not just unaware or ignorant but actively denying it. That means when presented with evidence they still deny it happened.
Not knowing the details is understnadable, figures, names of camps etc. But outright denial is real and unsettling. 1 in 20. That’s a...
You seem okay most of the time, if a little stupid but every now and again you show a flash of being a truly nasty bloke. No offence intended, just how you come across on here.
I disagree. There’s plenty of ceremonies I’d like to see gone but Remembrance is not one of them .
It’s two hours, one day a year. Just the money alone the poppy appeal raises for veterans is worth the event.
Fairs, it’s been over 30 years since I was in school. I just assumed these days you had them all goose stepping round the playground, let them play on their Gameboy’s for homework and fed them crack at breakfast club :-)
Which would lead to the question why would anyone want to deliberately manipulate a poll bearing such sensitive subject matter. Either way it’s unsettling.
