Been playing catch up with the films I didn't get to see first time round in 2018:
The Meg
Giant shark buffoonery. Statham in his element (literally, he's an ex Olympic diver). Very enjoyable. 6/10
MI:Fallout
Very enjoyable revitalising of a tired franchise. Crash, Bang, Wallop! What a video...
So.... you use the two films he picked out as brilliant and used them both as derogatory comparisons to Leave No Trace....having only seen one of them.
Sigh.
I, Tonya.
Brilliant dramatisation of the mid-90’s scandal of Olympic figure skater, Tonya Harding. If this film’s take on matter is accurate one cantvutvhelp desperately sorry for all the women involved.
It’s a brilliant film.
I never said you said it was one of the greatest films of all time, you have made that up for effect. I said you said it was one of your favourite films of all time . Big difference.
You were certainly gushing about it on here. But I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.
I can This year off the top of my head I have enjoyed in no particular order
Han Solo
Widows
On Chesil Beach
Journeyman
Blackkklansman
You Were Never Really Here
Leave No Trace
Cargo (Netflix film)
Walk Like A Panther
Jurassic World
Swimming With Men
The Light Between Oceans
Don’t Worry, He...
No. I’m sure he can stick up for himself should he wish or care to but what MB does is go and see a lot of films and take chances on less publicised fare. This way one , by law of odds will see a lot of films you might not like as much. Whereas you only ever go to see films specifically aimed...
Oh I utterly agree. I’m more interested in seeing Neil Maskell tbh and I like the sound of the subject matter. I like the “family/friends gathering in a country pile that inevitably blows up in their faces genre. However there is a q&a with BW after so I will voice our concerns!
Looking forward to Ben Wheatley’s latest , Happy New Year, Colin Burstead at DoY Cinecity showing later this evening. Wheatley and Maskell are a winning combo.
Fancied a bit of brainless entertainment so we went to see the JJ Abrams prouduced Overlord a few nights ago. Named after operation Overlord it follows a squadron of the 101st Airborne being dropped behind enemy lines, their mission being to take out a signal jammer on top of a church and...
Enjoying a spot of annual leave and finding an afternoon to myself I headed along to the gorgeous Dome Cinema in Worthing. At £5.20 for a weekday showing, £3.50 on Mondays it really does offer such better value than any cinema in Brighton and it’s certainly a lot nicer. Just has the edge on Duke...
It was originally my mistake. I knew it was Ian McEwan, it’s sitting on my bookshelf but for some reason I’m mybhead I get the two names muddled in my head .
The whole point of the film is that it is sad that the marriage ends on their wedding day. It’s the core of the story.
Huh? Southcliff, four lions and Nathan Barley are three of the finest, most highly regarded productions of the last few years. What a baffling point of view. They are brilliant.
On Chesil Beach:
The tale of a couple who love each other completely but for reasons best left for the film to explain, cannot be together. He spends the rest of his life unfulfilled and lonely. It really affected me this film. Not least because Chesil beach made up a huge part of my life and I...
Walk Like A Panther
It’s Saturday. It’s 4pm. It’s grapple time!
For fans of British wrestling this film is a little , fun treat. Set in Newcastle and starring among many British greats, Stephen Graham, WLAP tells the story of an ageing wrestling troupe coming out of retirement to raise money...
Just watched a Prayer Before Dawn. I had heard good things so was expecting better.
2 hours of sweaty men with tattoos shouting at each other, ladyboys, lots of arguing about cigarettes, lead bloke trying to avoid being botty raped and shots of men sleeping on the floor.
Dreary and ambling...
Couple of out of cinema but recent ones I watched on Prime recently:
The shape of water.
Interesting but not the knockout I was expecting. Is it me or is it pretty much a darker remake of the 2nd half of Splash? I like the leading lady ( I forget her name) and she was great in it but I...
