My rule of thumb is the smaller the car the harder it finds to overtake.
I guess that says more about the driver, but a Micra will seriously struggle to pass me, when it eventually does, the rest of the traffic just sail through.
Sadly I have no doubt who's to blame for the holdup.
It amazes me that anyone would think a strip of different coloured tarmac would be a sufficient method of segregation.
Earlier I referenced Southsea, which sizewise is comparable to Brighton's prom.
Do it once, do it properly:-
Much of the seafront has the cycle lane actually walled in, with...
Does it, all laws of the road apply to all vehicles and users.
Can you legislate for the common sense needed around lights and clothing?
If you start imposing tax/insurance legislation on cyclists, the second thing, after cheering, all committed motorists will do is plea for the law to be...
We're saying the same thing.
I don't believe the cyclist did enough to protect himself.
But he shouldn't have to protect himself from that.
It's no shock that I'm less than 100% Team bike. I can't think of a single 'car v bike' thread where that has been the case.
The bottom line is we have...
No because as frequently said irrespective as to what happened previously the drivers 'punishment' of the cyclist won't fit the 'crime'.
Rightly or wrongly on my part, when my ride takes onto the A272, 24, 27, 29 etc etc, I view myself as being on a 'car' road.
I do everything I can to not be...
I'm all for defensive riding, us making ourselves big, I do it enough myself.
I just can't imagine doing it on the A272, or any A road, irrespective of the 30mph limit painted on the road.
I'd have been hugging the curb and getting the van in front of me asap.
I find the defence of the cyclists road position a little odd.
He's clearly considerably further across the road than the 'cameraman'.
Taking the video at face value, the van had to have passed said cameraman.
Even the final frames have the victim returning to the road directly in front of his...
As said, from the clip I think, and I'm sure the rest of the geeks will agree, something happened before hand.
The fact that it's not on the clip doesn't sit comfortably with me as a person of the bike.
Again though irrespective of the initial incident it's not comparable to the actions of the...
This stuff happens, while out on the road.
It's fookin dangerous, and to us cyclists there is only one end result, we are the ones getting injured or killed.
For that reason I'm usually pro motor, irrespective as to how wrong they are, at the end of the day they are the ones with the power...
Quite possibly.
Equally possible is that the riders were riding 3 abreast the driver gave a little toot to say he was there.
Got a volley of abuse while the outside rider stayed where he was in the road, to 'teach him a lesson'.
Do either things warrant being run off the road, of course not...
I wouldn't say textbook NSC at all.
TBH I'm quite pleased that the response has been broadly pro bike, text book NSC of old, would have been quite the reverse.
As Bold Seagull says (clearly copying my comments from Geeks yesterday  ) there's quite obviously more to this situation that what...
