Slightly harsh I feel. He had his head turned, but his disappointment has passed and unlike, say, Joey Barton he has knuckled down and performed every bit as well as he did last season. I hold no grudge towards Stephens at all.
The goalposts have moved though. We are in pole position for promotion, so he's worth more to us than the £8m it might rise to. I suspect HKFC nailed it earlier on. He's worth far more to us than he is to Stoke, Burnley or the Nigels.
And talking of the Nigels, if we go up and they go...
Point taken, but you can make an educated guess. Here is what we know:
1) we rejected £8m for him in the summer
2) we are now in an even better position than we were in the summer. We are a best priced 4/7 to go up, which means the bookies think we are far more likely to be in the Prem next...
Spot on. If we keep hold of Stephens, we go up IMO. That 20 goal striker isn't anything like as important as we are seeing. It's not like any of our first three choice strikers are shite, despite what the goal tally might say.
Dalek features can nick off. We won't consider any offers for our players if we are five points clear of third when the transfer window opens.
It would genuinely be more interesting to know if Stephens stays here for next season if we have managed promotion.
