a) They need players now (not that I think Barnes is what they need) b) Once he's a free agent he can go anywhere c) Barnes might be better advised to take the security of a contract rather than wait for a season and take his chances

I'd imagine they are and can't see Barnes saying No and taking his chances in the summer. I reckon we'll sign him for another 2 years but will keep him at least until end of season and see where we are/what we need
