Ha! I like that. It puts me in the clear too.
I really didn't expect to change my mind on this record...it kinda got under my skin. Long instrumental bits that I'd previously found annoying were suddenly just...right.
I made an effort earlier in the year, and found it boring and derivative. Again, the influences were all I could hear.
I tried again recently, and despite myself, I have fallen for it hook, line and sinker. I got one of the last tickets for the Dome, and am really looking forward to it.
Weird...
Thanks for this, and your other post about Ty Segall's collaborations. My weekend is sorted.
I go away for one evening, and four more pages of this thread pass, full of recommendations, full of excuses to bankrupt myself. Harrumph.
Which kind of answers your earlier question about where people...
I must have been away. Damn.
Track five is great, but just sits in there amongst other really excellent tunes. The album has a feel of one-ness, sort of like one long track - amazingly there are 17...
When did you see him there (Green Door)? Have I missed out again? Like I have with Neneh, and annoyingly, Echo & The Bunnymen, who I forgot to buy tickets for...
I would love to see him live. He never seems to come to the UK for long, and when he does he doesn't venture south of a London.
I'm not an expert on his output, I have five of his solo albums and last year's, I think, Fuzz album.
The first time I became aware of him was hearing 'Thank God For...
I have just listened to Thee Oh Sees, White Fence and Mikal Cronin. All sound great, so this thread is costing me money again...or perhaps my Christmas list is growing.
Yeah, agreed. Number 1 is an absurd placing.
I have quite a lot of the albums in that list, more than is usually the case. But as usual, these Top 100 lists are gonna cost me money. I HAVE to delve further. I always end up with a few turkeys...
Well, I quite like the Temples album. It's not a world beater, but it has a nice groove. A bit derivative, yes, in a late sixties kind of way. A mate is a big fan, and I am accompanying him to The Concorde to see them live next weekend.
I bought Manipulator a few weeks ago, the new Ty Segal record, but have only just got it out of its cellophane wrap. I forgot I had it, and knew that a couple on here had said it wasn't up to his normal standard.
It is now being played on rotation. An absolutely brilliant album - my favourite...
I love Jack White. Again and again he reduces passionate, urgent and compelling albums in his many guises.
And he's done it again. Lazaretto is brilliant. As often with him, I wasn't convinced on the first two listens, but now I cannot get it off the turntable. What an album.
What an album.
I've decided that I love Shadow, the new album by Little Barrie. By far their best offering, and Barrie Cadogan really can work that guitar!
Bluesy rocky brilliance. They're playing in Brighton next week too, so that's not to be missed.
This thread had slipped to page 5!
I have to say, Gruff Rhys has released a corker in American Interior. The live show at The Corn Exchange was wonderful, but the album itself...full of fantastic tunes, harmonies, styles. His best solo effort, and the most Super Furry thing he's done without...
