Surely, if they go back to work on Friday and are working to rule, they won't want to do overtime Saturday and Sunday. So, at 2.00pm Friday when they all go home after their one day of work, the Council gets contractors in to work right through till 6.00am Monday when the bin men go back on...

Is there anyone out there who has time to submit a Freedom of Information request to all the Local Authorities in East and West Sussex to ascertain exactly how much each refuse collector earned last year - and the hours worked at flat-rate, time + half and double time to reach those earnings...

Makes sense. And then adopt the Adur and Worthing way of moving collection days after Bank Holidays so there is no need to pay overtime rates.
