Countries compete in the World Baseball Classic, there have been 4 tournament with Japan winning twice, also Puerto Rico, Dom Rep, Cuba, Netherlands, Venezuela very competitive. The USA have one win and a fourth place. It is as much a global game than rugby union.

I've been to the States three times and have been impressed every time, and I'd much rather have an over-attentive waiter than wait in vain for service that never comes.
In no particular order:
1. The way in which their professional sports are organised so that their leagues remain competitive and even the "smaller" teams have a chance if they luck out in the Player Draft.
