I'm 64 and lived in Sussex, worked in Brighton, for 50 of those years. I've never heard about Balsdean and, had I not looked it up, would have thought it a wind-up. Incredible that this little village with church & farm were completely destroyed. Google Earth shows some outlines of buildings...

If pushed for a town then Lewes, but Sussex does have some of the best countryside in the whole world along with an amazing sunset. So Devils Dyke for a place.
