Yep change would have to radical - and unless it is, we will see many more clubs in the same position.
The EFL must implement financial rules so that clubs cannot get into this position
But it is probably too late - in many cases the stable door has already fallen off
The rules if broken should not fall on the club and the fans but the owner. If Day knew he would be facing stiff penalties for overspending he would not have bought the club in the first place.
As to Bury, would you protest if your club was gaining promotion? Of course not - many wouldn’t have...
There wouldn’t be debts if the accounts were scrutinised quarterly.
Yes and we are still as a club at risk if Uncle Tony decides to jack it in
Currently Sky money means that Championship clubs are risking all to make the promised land
Derby Sheffield Wednesday and Villa have all sold their...
No just think it through mate
It would not have been allowed to get to this point if quarterly checks had been made on the accounts, with threats of overspending/ losses would leading to fan group ownership.
Criminals would not be interested in buying clubs with these rules.
But the EFL is on...
Have a fit and proper person test that is fit for purpose?
Monitor club accounts quarterly with real threats if not provided?
Initiate rules that mean fans groups have first grabs at takeovers?
Look at making clubs community assets like pubs so chancers like Day Dale and Archer can’t just...
On a slightly more positive note
The nearest club to me, Rushden and Diamonds, worked their way up through the football pyramid backed by the money of Max Griggs, eventually reaching League 1.
He built a ground, training and youth facilities
Eventually his family and his health forced him to...
500 fans there now clearing the ground for Saturday including some from other clubs
I’m rapidly losing interest in the football pyramid
Albion could probably save Bury with Lewis Dunks wages
It’s not right just not right
It’s really amazing isn’t it? Presumably the only test on the “Fit and Proper” Test is that the Director isn’t banned as a director.
I’ve never been a director of anything - who can I buy?
I understand your sentiments.
Bury bought their way to promotion - like all clubs do. Even us mate. In the 70’s Mike Bamber bought us promotion, and that eventually led to the 90’s.
And who is to say, if we go down this season, Uncle Tony says feck it, we will be back where we were in those...
Not garbage at all - wake up.
Presumably three up three down is written into the original EPL contracts with the FL, and the bottom half of the PL would gladly like that rule cancelled.
But absolutely correct that the rich clubs wanted to get shot of the poor clubs. They’re trying to do it now...
