    [Albion] Premier League 30/9 - 3/10/23

No argument from me. I only meant that the VAR in the Palace game subjectively drew the lines in the wrong place, because it isn’t science. He made a mistake based on where he thought the lines should go. Yesterday’s was different in that VAR didn’t know what he was checking. Seems he thought...

    [Albion] Premier League 30/9 - 3/10/23

The Palace one provided evidence that subjective decisions by VAR aren’t any better than subjective decisions by refs on the pitch. Yesterday’s Spurs one tells us that VAR maybe doesn’t even watch the game (jet lagged from the UAE flight ?) and certainly doesn’t communicate effectively with the...

What am I hearing now on Sky ? The VAR officials from the Spurs game were reffing in the UAE on Thursday and are going out there again this week. Wtf ? Not fit to work in English football.

Would you introduce a new testing machine into a hospital without competent technicians to use it ? One is rather dependent upon the other. People cannot keep shouting at the operators unless they can suggest exactly who has shown they are able to use it.

True, but you can’t magic that. If we start from a position of respecting the on field officials we have a better chance of improving refereeing performance. I know that if someone told me I was crap at my job the whole time I wouldn’t bother. If there is a machine that gets decisions right the...

I guess I mean VAR. It is two different issues though.

What’s the evidence that it is any better elsewhere ? This is about VAR rather than refs. Pre VAR we managed for decades with on field mistakes. That isn’t acceptable when we have a perfection promising machine.

    [Albion] Premier League 30/9 - 3/10/23

Wow. Really ? I was just going on what another poster said. That begs the question were they actually watching the game in the subsequent minutes. So when they did realise they just stuck their fingers in their ears and hoped it would go away. Our game basically has a machine that lacks...

Yes, we are continually being told they do, so if PGMOL are saying otherwise it sounds untrue.

How about we ban sports betting instead ? VAR was introduced in part to satisfy the gambling industry and the game is now imploding. Start by getting rid of their adverts.

Disagree. Mistakes have always happened on field in football. It was never perfect nor expected to be. Ref says offside. Everyone accepts it and we all get on with the game. VAR was introduced to make ‘correct’ decisions and it has opened a can of worms because ‘correct’ isn’t achievable.

I didn’t say the quote you have attributed to me. NSC is about as reliable as VAR.

So many defenders of VAR blame the operators. That’s an unbelievable cop out. Would you introduce a new machine into a hospital if the technicians couldn’t operate it correctly ? Of course not. The people who introduced this awful idea should operate it themselves if they believe in it so much.

But it was only because he got the ball that his foot subsequently slipped over it. I don’t think that makes it dangerous. It’s just a by product of making the challenge. The only thing he could have done differently was not get the ball.

Ridiculous VAR decision. He aimed for the ball, got it and his foot slid over the ball. I am so bored with the crapness of VAR.
