I agree with this. Linear travel is impossible. The only way we could travel such distances would be to develop some sort of device that folds space-time, but if that is something that can be done, we're more likely to travel dimensions rather than space.

Personally, I don't think lifeforms can get that advanced, they would have wiped themselves out long before developing FTL drives.

No chance. By 'Alien' I'm assuming they mean Alien to them, not to Russia or China where I suspect these 'vehicles' originate. The logistics of FTL travel, navigation etc means we will never have Extra-Terrestrial life visiting us. The universe is so vast, people can't get their heads round...
