[Cricket] The Ashes - England v Australia - 4th Test, Old Trafford, July 19-23, 2023

Any uncovered wicket saw Deadly's eyes light up. Thats where he built his reputation. I've seen him take a far bit of stick on good wickets. Still a class performer, though.

Neither was Worthing. Sussex played their last ' festival ' ( back to back County matches ) there in about 1964. From memory it was Derbyshire and Warwickshire. Neither side reached 200 in eight innings. Sussex were bowled out for 23 in the 8th and final innings of those two games, never to return.

[Cricket] The Ashes - England v Australia - 4th Test, Old Trafford, July 19-23, 2023

Our poor start left no room for manouvere. We were relying on everything going our way. The toss. The weather. No one on the opposition catching fire. We have started to play well too late in the series. The first two Tests were riddled with mistakes. The Aussies didn't have to play particularly...

[Cricket] The Ashes - England v Australia - 4th Test, Old Trafford, July 19-23, 2023

We had just lost two quick wickets and Stokes knows that England can only bat once in this Test. It was just a period of consolidation before a real go again ( weather permitting ) tomorrow. After all that superb foundation, we didn't want to be 6-7 down at the close, through chasing too hard.

I would suggest that the Aussies will be pretty happy with that. Its unlikely we will carve out a decent first innings lead. We would have to get 450 in four sessions and then try to bowl them out before the rains arrive. Be mightily surprised if the series is still alive going into the 5th...

[Cricket] The Ashes - England v Australia - 4th Test, Old Trafford, July 19-23, 2023

Well it was the gameplan according to our captain, after winning the toss yesterday. He actually said...." bowl them out for 200..... first innings lead....have another go at them " If he actually meant....' in the 200's '.....then fair enough, it nearly went to plan. But I took it fairly...

England's gameplan.....bowl Aussies out for 200.....get 350.....bowl em out again....not quite going to plan. New gameplan...............bowl Aussies out for 325.....get 450+ ( very quickly ).....bowl em out before the rain comes. ( I wish.......

Very nice part of the country around you.....Warlingham...Woldingham...etc....spent some formative years in Selsdon....used to play as kids around Addington...Sanderstead.....etc......remember some pretty steep hills off the A22.....one in particular, my father used to have to take a run at it...

[Cricket] The Ashes - England v Australia - 4th Test, Old Trafford, July 19-23, 2023

They don't deserve anything from this series perservering with Bairstow. His keeping is truly awful and he has made one decent score in 6 innings. Talk about a closed shop/jobs for the boys attitude. I keep hearing ( mainly from ex pro's ) how well he has done to recover from his...
