I think Shant is more widespread. I know some people who were born and live in Kent who use it to term 'heavy drinking night out.'..'.going out on the shant?'
i've worked with many northerners that have toned down their original regional accents to the point that it's no longer noticeable. Apart from the odd 'baath, or grass' slip, you wouldn't know.
