I was/am mildly pro-VAR but it is being woefully misused. Shouldn’t be used at the World Cup as the refs haven’t got to grips with it at all. Not even close to ready.

You’re missing my point, and - for my understanding - the point of VAR. It’s only for clear and obvious errors. The fact we’re still debating penalty or not shows that VAR shouldn’t have been used.

Whoever decided it was a clear and obvious error. It wasn’t. It was 50:50 at best.

As Southgate says, VAR used totally incorrectly. Error from the ref and he will hopefully be pulled up for that.

Rashford was AWFUL. Looked shattered as soon as he came on. Too many subs made the second half horribly disjointed. Decent first half. Sterling and Vardy excellent. Thought Pen was soft - ball had gone and there’s no way the tread was intentional at that pace.
