We are being linked with Juve midfielder Enzo Barrenechea who is another Argentinian. On loan at present, but apparently we approached Juve for him on Jan and may return again in the summer. A right Argentinian clan.
I would think that buying out a contract in the Uk is more difficult eg a future employer pays an individual £10m. Surely HMRC would see that as a payment for income tax purposes and then tax the individual on it accordingly? Circa £4m of tax.
Wonder how it works in Argentina?
They can’t hold us to ransom as he has a release clause.
However, I think we have previously offered something like $9m in two instalments and a 10% sell on.
However, it seems like they want the $10m all upfront.
Comes across as a bit short sighted from their perspective unless they have a cash...
Seen some reports on Twitter that Boca are holding out for the release clause which means that we’ll have to pay the $10m up front. I expect they need the cash. I expect we can find that after recent sales.
May mean this is the only deal we do, this window but with players returning from...
I also think we might lose Pervis this summer which is why it’s so important that we get Barco over the line.
I expect Liverpool will want him to replace the injury prone Robertson.
If we get this one over the line then great credit to our recruitment team and Sam Jewell in particular.
We really are forging a successful path in South America and long may it continue.
AleMac, Caicedo, Enciso, Buonanotte, and now, fingers crossed, Barco.
Obviously Pervis as well but via Spain.
Didn’t Enciso sign a new contract with his club in Paraguay before moving to us about 6 months later?
Re Carvalho, a loan for him as a March, stop gap replacement would make a lot of sense, especially with Adingra out injured. Even if he was back, I think Adingra on the left is his best...
I think Goodnight has deserved his place at the No 10 position after his Palace display. I was also impressed with his display there in the Marseille game. Probably can’t do the full 90 minutes but surely 60-70 minutes with Lallana replacing would be the plan?
We’ll definitely have other full back options apart from Barco. We’ve been linked with Samuel Iling Junior from Juve and Juanlu Sanchez from Sevilla. They are the ones that have been rumoured, but I’m sure there will be others.
I tend to think that we will lose out on this one which is why we are also linked with Samuel Iling Junior of Juve, and Juanlu Sanchez of Sevilla, albeit Sanchez is a right back, RWB.
Would love to be proven wrong though.
Walker Peters would be unlikely in Jan I’d think as they are in the promotion mix. However, if Southampton don’t come straight back up, then I’m pretty certain Southampton wouldn’t be in such a good position to retain him.
If you Google Barco you can see the clubs who are linked with him and...
I hope we can get this one over the line but it’s going to be really tough to beat off City if they are genuinely interested.
I hope we have other irons in the fire as a full back addition is critical.
I somehow doubt we’ll get this one over the line with City interested. However, you never know. Maybe being a regular starter for a team pushing for league 2 promotion won’t appeal to him?
