Okay.
(I didn't when I've spoken to Russians about WW2 as I didn't think there was much point as they were telling me about how it was all Nazi Germany's fault, Russia won WW2, and other awful things they did, like those you mention, were just a regrettable consequence of Nazi...
I heard earlier that Putin has spoken to the Greek PM, who offered his congratulations, and 2 other heads of state of EU countries today too prior to today's summit.
Yes - I agree, it was terrible, but as has been pointed out that doesn't cut much mustard with ordinary Russian people today when comparisons are made with them and the name 'Hitler'.
I know - but they will as well as getting angry, as will ordinary Russian people, at Hitler being mentioned in the same breath as them at this time of heightened diplomatic tensions with The UK.
I was just merely simply pointing out what offence and anger ordinary Russian people will take to a comparison with Hitler. The Kremlin media spin machine won't have to do much work with those comments. It wasn't about taking sides or having a lesson in Russian history.
I'm not saying they didn't. Perhaps we should point that to them too though, as well as comparing Putin and The World Cup to Hitler and The Berlin Olympics - the more diplomatic offence caused by making references to World War 2 the better..
26 million Soviets died in WW2 for Mother Russia - using Hitler and The Berlin Olympics as a comparison to Putin and this world cup is crass and only going to cause great offence, not just to The Kremlin, but to ordinary Russian people. WW2 is the yardstick of their psyche.
People should remember where we're playing our first game against Tunisia to see what huge and justifiable offence remarks like this will cause to the Russian people, without The Kremlin's media outlets going into overdrive.
