Apparently Villa are favourites to take Akpom on loan. Perhaps they're of the view that shifting McCormack's bulk out means they have to sign an equal weight of strikers.
Even Bruce said the other day that they've got six(?) strikers, but only play one up-top.
Given the number that has been cleared out, it really ought to point to two coming in, perhaps one for now, one slightly more for the future. We'll have to wait and see what comes out in the wash.
It doesn't. But the reason is to unsettle over the next few days, not to buy. I suspect that might be a tad obvious (although Villa did manage to do it with Calderwood, but the difference there is they went through with it -- I wonder if he's regretting that now).
In the summer if we get promoted (and Hull get relegated), then yes. The other players from potentially relegated clubs I'd like would include Defoe, Robertson and Sigurdsson. But I might just be getting ahead of myself. For the moment, a young PL striker is probably what we need, or Robbie Keane.
And this is good news, as Nugent on a half-season loan is precisely one of the few sorts of transfers we should be after. He'd help us over the line, but then we wouldn't be burdened with him if we got over the loan. This is why Keane would also be a good idea (although I can't see the...
I think this might be a more viable option than you credit, and would be a great loan signing.
The primary reason why he's being touted is because he hasn't had game time this season at Chelsea, so the key consideration is where he will get game time, and this would be more likely with us than...
As much as I'm a fan of Solly, I can't quite see it. He seems to be more of a winger/wide forward, and I do like the look of him as a more orthodox winger on the left, especially when dovetailed with Knockaert on the right.
He would. But surely this is a January Transfer Window thread and, as a consequence, we're discussing this window and not the summer's one.
This does illustrate what I think is the key issue, however, which is:
-- if we get a striker in this window (which we should), will it be with this...
It's a good question. Hemed, I'd imagine, with say Murphy playing just off him, but I'm more than willing to let Shane Long acclimatise to our squad in this fixture.
I find it very strange that Elvis went before the transfer window, if we haven't got someone (and back-ups, if that prime target falls through) lined up. Then again, I was pretty much convinced that we'd know the identity of this striker by now.
He's a fantastic player: an upgrade on Baldock with all Sam's positive attributes, plus he's no big-time Charlie, and would fit into the team and squad ethos perfectly. But it really isn't going to happen.
I think Murray's control, passing, etc is similarly bizarrely erratic. Sometimes, he reminds me of Berbatov, he's that classy, at others, he's more like a donkey.
The one bit I kind of disagree with is not in this post, but your previous one. In the previous one, you indicate that when Sam receives the ball, he loses it/his touch isn't good enough/etc, whereas in this one, you rightly claim that not only is he scoring but has a number of assists too...
I don't have the time to trawl through the Johnny Russell threads, but has this point been addressed: we need someone on 1st Jan, I see very little likelihood that one of our promotion rivals will just let one of their regular first team starters join a rival without holding out for more money...
