Could Nigel Farage end up a great British political leader?

This is an interesting article, based on what UKIP supporters' views are on economic issues. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/may/16/ukip-divided-left-right-cut-labour-support Suffice to say, those supporters will be a tad shocked when they realise that they've voted in a party...

Could Nigel Farage end up a great British political leader?

You've provided the proof in your own argument here: the presence of more/immigrant labour means that employers can offer lower wages; by contrast when labour is scarce, employers have to offer higher wages. That's why the issue of unemployment and labour availability matters. Unemployment has...

Could Nigel Farage end up a great British political leader?

The same EU that UKIP call a super-state, and the same Putin that Farage says that he admires.

Could Nigel Farage end up a great British political leader?

Can't disagree with this, although we're making a distinction between what UKIP do on the one hand, and what they say and their supporters, members, etc believe on the other hand. I do think it will be very interesting to see what happens in next year's General Election with UKIP. There's...

Could Nigel Farage end up a great British political leader?

I suspect you're probably right but, with the exceptions you point out, their members fail to see that UKIP's policy of targeting EU immigrants doesn't quite fit into such an agenda, and that really what they're after is not anti-EU im(migration), but anti-immigration per se. If they get in...

Could Nigel Farage end up a great British political leader?

I'm really not interested in what their policy states. Farage even said that their manifesto at the last election was barking -- like a stopped clock, he's got to be right at some point. What I'm far more interested in is how right-wing populist parties act when they're in power. We have plenty...

Could Nigel Farage end up a great British political leader?

You're quite right in your analysis. Immigrants have got nothing to do with the 'housing crisis'. The housing crisis is a result of a massive failure to build and renovate houses over the past three decades. This is very widely recognised and has been for a long time, go back to the Barker...

Could Nigel Farage end up a great British political leader?

RE future energy: Caroline Lucas has campaigned, quite sensibly, for the following: -- we use less energy -- we use energy more efficiently -- we wean ourselves off fossil fuels -- we expand our range of renewables (not just wind farms, as you claim, but also solar, tidal, wave, and no doubt...

Could Nigel Farage end up a great British political leader?

The focus has switched to this, because it's only recently become an issue, and will become more of an issue into the future. It's got nothing to do with governments spending too much money. This is an utter myth perpetrated by Osborne, Farage and all others who are more interested in serving...

Could Nigel Farage end up a great British political leader?

UKIP are actually in a bit of a bind on immigration, because they seek to blame immigration in its entirety on the EU, whereas the EU is only responsible for one-third of the immigrants in your list. But while we're on the subject, do you accept that the extant UK population is ageing, both in...

Could Nigel Farage end up a great British political leader?

With you on this one... ... but I still haven't got a response, despite evidence of subsequent activity on this thread... ... does this mean that I have to repost the reposted post, and include requisite punctuation to elicit a response?

Could Nigel Farage end up a great British political leader?

This is what I said: I agree that getting our young into work would be a good thing. But why blame immigrants, when the real reason is that we don't care about unemployment any more. Go back forty years, and figures of a quarter of million would be considered as a crisis. Now our Coalition...

Any chance you can respond to the question I posed to you in post 71?

Could Nigel Farage end up a great British political leader?

Salmond has consistently been one of the best politicians over the past two decades. It's when he's been confronted with his great moment -- that is, the independence vote, over the past three years -- that he's been found wanting.

And you would know what that is, presumably.

Could Nigel Farage end up a great British political leader?

I differ on this. If given a referendum, I'm fairly confident that those that turn up will ensure that the UK leave the EU as most don't realise that the empire has gone, and are under the delusion that the UK will rediscover its mojo outside of the UK.

Could Nigel Farage end up a great British political leader?

Which just goes to show how inept UKIP are at politics. Consistent high scores in opinion polls, yet no MPs, and very few council seats. It's because they're bankrolled by the rich, and none of their supporters or members have got the guts or willingness to go around and bang on people's doors...
