I'm not so sure I'd go there when rattled which I would be if I'd been to the range of hostelries that you did on Saturday. This might be another way of saying that it's "rather pompous and up it's [sic] own backside" as Westdene claims. (Note my pompous/up backside intervention there.) This...

It's good, but I'd rather pay a few quid extra to go to Chilli Pickle. I've also been to 64 Degrees three times, and Merry Prankster articulates some good points, although I'm not quite as critical. They're experimental there, which suggests that dishes can be both hit and miss, and they're...

I really don't like Terre a Terre. There's just too much going on. I want a bit of definition when eating, and think that an Italian 'secondi' or St John's three things on a plate works best for me. Asian food excepted from this rule.

I tried Curry Leaf Cafe the other day. It's good, but not as good as Chilli Pickle. Had mackerel for starter and pork vindaloo as a main, which was a pretty good choice.

I'm sorely tempted by their £10 thali on Monday lunch times.

I like that Fil-Fil (?) place in the Laines, and will be having some chicken breast for my dinner tonight :(

Never thought so, but I must be a bit hip and trendy, as I love Chilli Pickle, but would welcome indications of where you can get a better curry than from there.

Two things: 1, if you haven't done so already, try The Cuthbert, especially as the last I heard, those that run it are looking to get out 2, I think I read somewhere that you've got a 7yo. Mine's just reached those giddy heights and we've both got a ST this season. I just wanted to know if you...

64 Degrees is disliked by certain people whose opinion on food I respect. One of whom reckons the food just isn't up to much, which I profoundly disagree with. Others say it's somewhat pretentious, and as your post indicates, it is a bit stark and lacking in comfort. Female plebeian Machiavelli...

The Cuthbert is not as inventive as 64 Degrees, but the cooking is very accomplished and executed, they pair ingredients together well, the portions are big, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality. It's a perfect neighbourhood restaurant/gastro-pub.

I posted something briefer but similar a few weeks back. And you're right that cauliflower dish is delicious. They also always have a dish with an egg in it, which is well worth a go, we had it with smoked haddock, spinach and a cullen skink smear. It was yum. They also had a delicious oats and...

Two recommendations that I've recently encountered at very different ends of the price spectrum. Brighton Burger in the south Laines does a mean meat pattie for just four quid. 64 degrees, also in the south Laines, is extremely accomplished and innovative, and is alongside Chilli Pickle and The...
