North American soccerball and the MLS Season starts Saturday

Man City owner Sheik Mansour bin Zayed and NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg now have plans for a MLS franchise expansion. The team would be called New York City Football Club and would be based in Queens and would start playing in 2016. There is supposed to be an announcement on May 25 when bin Zayed...

North American soccerball and the MLS Season starts Saturday

Nasty incident in the LA Galaxy game against FC Dallas. Dallas defender George John was lucky that he only suffered minor injuries after being hit on the head by a beer bottle which was thrown after he scored. Hopefully video footage will catch the thug that threw it. FC Dallas player hit by...

North American soccerball and the MLS Season starts Saturday

...And if you don't stand up for the American National Anthem, played at every game, the locals can get a bit miffed. But it's a small price to pay for watching live football.

And in a totally unrelated incident………………….There was a follow up to this story on CNN last night. New England Revolution player leaves to become priest

North American soccerball and the MLS Season starts Saturday

It could easily support 2 clubs. The Red Bulls actually play in New Jersey (like the Giants and the Jets) so although they get a lot of fans from NYC they also have a big fan base in Newark, Jersey City etc. The Cosmos stadium will be in Queens – there are already a lot of Latinos living there...

North American soccerball and the MLS Season starts Saturday

New York Cosmos are still very much a “work in progress”. The earliest they will join the MLS franchise is 2013 as they have only just identified a site for their stadium. If you still want a NYC team to follow I’d recommend my adopted team the Red Bulls.

North American soccerball and the MLS Season starts Saturday

I was a season ticket holder at the Red Bulls for the last 2 years – I sat in section 118 right behind the goal. I’d recommend anywhere on the lower tier – tickets are reasonably priced – plenty of seats for $25 – 35 with regular promotions. It’s easy to get to the stadium – get the PATH train...

North American soccerball and the MLS Season starts Saturday

Totally agree. I think the reason is that soccerball is still a relatively new sport in the States and there is a surprising amount of enthusiasm and passion and it’s not all about ‘the money’. In Europe it’s a well established, mature sport and I just think a lot of fans are more jaded and...

North American soccerball and the MLS Season starts Saturday

MLS season 2013 kicked off last Saturday. Should be a good season. LA Galaxy will be looking for their 3rd consecutive MLS cup title and their have been some interesting signings including Carlo Cudicini as goalie at LAG. I’m still supporting NY Red Bulls but don’t really see them winning, I’d...

Looks like Luke Rodgers might be playing back in the UK instead of for the Red Bulls after US immigration refuse to renew his visa http://goal.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/03/30/u-s-denies-visa-renewal-for-red-bulls-rodgers/

North American soccerball and the MLS Season starts Saturday

The resurrection of the Cosmos has been on the cards for a while now with Pele on board and Cantona was appointed as coach, but realistically it would be a struggle. Red Bulls have now built up a loyal fan base and managed to find a location for their stadium in Harrison New Jersey which has...

North American soccerball and the MLS Season starts Saturday

Just renewed my Red Bulls season ticket – works out at $25 a game in a fantastic stadium. MLS has really come on in the last few years - a lot of that has been driven by the TV networks taking it more seriously and the large number of South Americans living in the States who want to watch...
