Technically, the City of Newport is a county, thanks to the provisions of the Local Government (Wales) Act 1994, which defined all of the unitary authorities in Wales as "counties". The football club was, of course, originally called The Newport & Monmouth County Association Football Club.

I think it's a shame they didn't move to Withdean, that leafy stadium just at the north end of Preston Village. They could have called themselves ... Preston North End.
