Yes, and including a not fit Jimmy was a disaster. Leach and Archer in.

I fear that you're correct. Would love to see an old fashioned "GRIND IT OUT!" performance. Athers and Jack Russell v the Saffers style. Burns is capable of it. So is Root. You never know. But my chickens have yet to even be started to be put in numerical order. Or something. I still think...

Lyon is still a **** though. Small mercies. He can't change that.

And, sorry to bang on about it, but fielding is so underrated when it comes to cricket comparisons. Even watching top end club cricket nowadays, it's WAY better than international cricket in the 80s fielding wise. Everyone has to be totally on it, or you lose. No passengers. The fast bowlers...

It would be fascinating. I think that modern fielding (which nobody can argue is light years ahead of that era) would make a big difference. That's why there can be no comparison.

Well yes. Look at SA without Steyn at the World Cup. They screwed themselves by picking an unfit front line bowler. We're still in the game, and the series. Even if that's Jimmy done. Our greatest bowler ever..... People love talking England down. We'll win this series.

Bradman was a genius. Possibly the greatest of all time. So it's disingenuous to quote him imo. Of course him, or Tendulka would have scored runs in any era. The massive difference is that teams nowadays, great teams, can't carry passengers in the field, or even as batsmen down the order. Look...

Perhaps because the fielding was completely shit compared to how it is now. Think about it.

Thommo was the quickest apparently. But he got slaughtered the night before to bowl better with a hangover. Training and skill has improved, so (as you know dazzer) it's a different game. Go away BG. You already said you have no idea about cricket. If you saw the way kids train now then maybe...

But BG. NONE of those great players of their time would last ten seconds in the current era. It's like comparing football players from different eras. It's not the same game. I prefer to enjoy the now rather than incomparable comparisons from yesteryear.

Anyway, Rob Key's shirt (analysing Lancs/Notts). A BRAVE move? Or just a fat bloke who looks like he's covered in APHIDS? Not sure about Butcher's choice either. [emoji23]
