ELO, A New World Record - trumped with: Out of the Blue... Simply staggering.
And before you say it :/ I've always been a fan, even when ELO was THE byword for shite in one or two critical circles. Ahem.
Mountain - Climbing, topped (and then some) by Nantucket Sleigh Ride.
Totally agree with Neil Young.
Radiohead - Amnesiac, sonically their best and contains some of the best and most original music I've ever heard.
For really eclectic; I'd put Cressida in there for a beautiful debut, topped by the awesome Asylum. Gravy Train too, a benchmark debut of swirly prog, jazz and blues, topped by the sophomore: Ballad... and taken to new highs on Staircase to the Day...
Superb.
I'd say Sparklehorse, topped two bench marks with: it's a Wonderful Life.
In the mainstream, I'd say... Beck, who regularly marks his bench and then tops it with a layer of musical varnish. A genius.
