The dates don’t really stack up with this claim. He struggled with addiction long before Live Aid and died from his issues 6 months after the gig. His wife had left him some time before due to his problems. The snub could not have been a “final tailspin.”

True. Thinking about the times I have seen them, once was in the 80s and the 3 times over the last decade.....once on the last tour with Axl Rose singing. Whilst these last 3 shows are obvs not the ACDC of the 80s they were still very enjoyable and certainly fun.
