Since I can remember. Tipping the Deliveroo guy was more recent, following an argument with the Frau over some poor sap who had to climb 4 flights of stairs because someone was too lazy to go out.

I don’t like it when service is added to the bill; this is wrong and creates an expectation. Otherwise I’m fine in sectors where I feel it’s a “tradition”; then it’s down to the individual whether they tip.

I have also f***ed up a few times….and given a tip on top of an added service charge. This has happened 3 times and twice my error was pointed out. In both cases I offered to pay the “second” tip, one restaurant accepted this but one (Cin Cin Hove) refused. I also gave a ridiculous tip in Köln...

I tip my hairdresser as well…it’s a tradition I guess but he has one of the easiest jobs in the world doing my hair.

As an aside I worked as a waiter in my student days and know how difficult the job can be, and what a huge difference to my morale a good tip can do.

Good point, US 20% is almost obligatory
