I will also recommend http://www.vasodeoro.com. It’s a long thin very old pub with a German background. They brew their own excellent pilsner and the house food speciality is Solomillo con Foie....a plate of steak with foie gras and onions....a must have and it will put hairs on your chest...
No reservations. It’s a basic and old school cafe/canteen type of place with a nice bar open from early morning until 16:00 as opposed to a restaurant. I got there at 14:30 today (Saturday) and it was rammed with a queue. I was initially told they had no room but I hung around for 20 mins...
Lol. You should see where I’m heading for lunch. This, from Tripadvisor:
Authentic classic Catalan cooking
Best brains in Barcelona. Lovely family run authentic Catalan restaurant. Friendly service.Classics include Trinxat (bubble and squeak), deep fried brains, snails, cap i pota (head and...
http://www.caravelle.es is a tip-off from Guinness Boy. You’ll see from the link it’s many things to many people but if you’re on the evening shift and craft beer and meat served by tattoed Catalan chicks is your thing it’s worth a visit. As a fan of all three I found myself there early...
St John:
Fizz
Bone marrow and parsley salad obvs
Crispy widgeon legs and dandelion
Grilled ox heart, Jerusalem artichoke, horseradish.
Eccles cake and Lancashire cheese
2 glasses of red
Complimentary dessert wine.
The great man himself was having lunch as well.
Ha. No way. I was there last night as well, albeit arriving at 21:50 (with all my luggage) and having to relay my order through from the train to Uter who arrived earlier....we just made last orders. I was originally booked for 19:00 but we had to push it back a few times due to my travel...
They were brewery tap rooms not restaurants. The two restaurants were perfect. I hear you, but I presumed a bunch of poncy tap rooms in a god forsaken part of London well out of the usual tourist areas might be safe. I was very wrong; craft is very much part of the mainstream now.
This reminds me of a Chinese place me and my brother went to before a Millwall game. The place was a buffet type place, totally empty apart from a group of guys in the corner as us two. It had an odd feel about it and a rather threatening “food left on plates will be charged for” notices on the...
There’s an element of this for sure. But they were rude and disrespectful to the staff and not really aware of themselves and the impact they were having; a group of 20 blokes in such a small venue alters the atmosphere significantly. Some people need to be understand it’s not all about them...
I only went to the bit on Enid Street ie BBNo, Cloudwater, Sweden Calling and Moor. The issue was numerous large groups of pissed up blokes (stags, Xmas parties, whatever) staggering around being loud and annoying. There was a group of around 20 all in Santa hats annoying everyone in Cloudwater...
Had a day to myself in London. Black Axe Mangel for lunch (crispy pig cheek donut, Dexter cap with chilli, anchovy and watercress on dripping flatbread and squid ink bread with smoked cods roe and two glasses of red) , then the hugely disappointing Bermondsey Beer Mile. It was so bad changed...
