I tried The Curry Leaf on Ship Street on Sunday. It's South Indian, cafe style food in a relaxed setting with a good selection of craft beers which go amazingly well with Indian. Nice staff as well. A big thumbs up from me.

Going back to Chilli Pickle die Frau said she was not impressed with it. She said the price was too high and the actual building/restaurant itself was not a pleasing environment to eat food. She said she also has a bit of an issue with 'posh indian.'

I'd also recommend Al Frash if you're in Birmingham and fancy a decent indian. And rev up on some top-notch craft at Brewdog Brum before hand.

This sounds excellent. It must be brilliant being the landlord/manager of this place and getting all this decent beer and food in; what fun.

For me Trolls is number 1 so yes it a place which is hip and trendy and where I personally can get better elsewhere. That's not to say it's bad though. The food was actually good and if I was 25 again and needing a buzzy lively venue I'd probably eat there a lot more.

Like you I went to Hobglobin to find no Trolls and popped into Meat Liquor as a back up. I was in and out quickly but I thought the burger was pretty decent, good quality, and the beer fine. It's a venue which is clearly aimed a younger person than me and maybe it would grate had I spent longer...

I went a few months back and thought it was pretty good.
