No different to an electrical fire which could accidentally start in a house. Wouldn't be surprised if it's a load of rubbish.......which touched the 3rd rail and caught light.
EDIT - Some newspapers were caught between the 18.47 Victoria - Ore service's shoe gear and started smouldering -...
Thats the NRE app though, that isnt accurate and i suspect that was said because of how the signalling is on the Brighton - Lewes line - the next signal after Falmer is at London Road, so NRE had incorrectly assumed you had already arrived.
Corrected and it isnt a train on fire, but a fire on the tracks - probably something to do with the 3rd rail. Western side of Victoria Station evacuated and closed - fire service on scene.
Yes, that one. Not just for train spotters - sites like that are great if your a commuter - can see to the exact minute how delayed you are and if cancelled - you get a more detailed reason.
No, it was 3 minutes. Since Network Rail have recently allowed software developers to use their realtime train data, you can track a train now at any point in its journey, including arrival times, how much it was delayed by at what station etc - useful for delay claims. No idea of a website, but...
You were sat at Preston Park for 3 minutes, though because paths are tight North of Gatwick - you missed your booked path and had to get slotted in between other trains.
Its Lewes - Hastings being commissioned. The work is already running late - put it that way.
Haywards Heath signalling issues re-occurred and now the lines through Haywards Heath are closed in both directions due to flooding.
Wouldnt be surprised if the signalling problems were down to flooding either.
Haywards Heath signalling issue is mainly affecting NORTHbound services, you might just be alright coming back from London, albeit with a very slight delay.
UPDATE - all fixed within 20 minutes.
May as well go here - signalling issue at Haywards Heath - 20 minute delays. Also person hit by a train has shut the West Coast line down between Milton Keynes and London.
As can a rail route to some extent. A Sat Nav advertises an arrival time/journey time too, there is no such guarantee you will be there at that time.
With roads there is a level of expectancy too.
All types of transport are the same really.
Stock which forms the 7.14 service forms a service from Victoria which ran late for some reason this morning. 7.29 stock comes empty from a depot, so is more often than not going to be on time.
Take a look at the causes and then add in the amount of trains operated compared to other companies. If you run more services, then your figures are bound to be lower as there is more chance of delay.
Normal service planned.
To those moaning, please state how you can move from an emergency timetable to a normal service halfway through the day when you dont have staff available ?
Im on about the Brighton - Lewes shuttles which are normally 6-coaches, everything else has been 8 coaches - good to see extra coaches being used though.
Brighton - Lewes shuttles to run at 19 and 49 minutes past each hour, system shows them as running non-stop though - if that happens, then Southern will be just shooting themselves in the head !!
