Latest update is that over 200 trees have fallen on rail lines - worst affected are lines which run with overhead power lines.

With well over 100 trees falling on the rail network over night - the shutdown looks like it was the right thing to do. Trains now running between London and Brighton and Eastbourne and Hastings. Trees still on lines at London Road, Polegate (2), Lancing, Angmering, Ore and Bosham.

Unfortunately those trees will be blown down tonight....

If they are able to get into work without risking the safety of themselves or others of course. Have heard that messages have been sent to only attempt travel if safe and the above. They do - honest.

Tomorrow morning probably. Southern have various emergency timetables which can be implemented when needed.

Would i be right in saying that all rostered train crew will be going into work at their normal times tomorrow and that trains will be in the same place over night ? If so, then a service would be rolled out pretty quickly once the all clear is given.

So you want to be on a train doing full linespeed, which then crashes into a tree then ? Be my guest. You would moan on here regardless of the advance notice or not..... And you would like your plane to potentially be blown off course by a gust of wind, again possibly crashing ?

So people shouldnt get any advance warning then ? If my flight was being cancelled - i would like to know in advance.

Yes, ghost trains will run - but not very fast for obvious reasons. Key routes will be checked first too - meaning London - Croydon - Gatwick - then onto Brighton.

It just gets better - you think its bad for an airport to instruct airlines to cancel flights, the things that FLY in the SKY with hundreds on board, in near hurricane force winds ? Jesus wept :facepalm:

Care to explain why when the last time Germany had the same such conditions as this, they suspended trains at the first chance ? I guess the people who dont turn up tomorrow never went to the Withdean in the freezing cold wind with pouring rain - THAT was worse than what we are going to get.

There isnt just "some" risk - it is a real risk and trees WILL come down on the rail network. Had the trains down here been running on overhead power lines, then they would have probably came down causing days of disruption. Only a slight risk to safety ? Its a BIG risk. FCC are now...

Normal Amex service should run according to someone I know from Southern - depends on conditions though. Police will decide whether it's on or not though.

South West Trains suspended before 8AM with a 50mph restriction all day. Southern will run after 9AM with major disruption until 12PM. Very strong risk of falling trees and power lines - major risk to safety.
