You may well be right, and of course other areas are cheaper. But it is more easily said than done. Sussex has so much to offer and I would not want to move from here.
This is true in that Scotland will show as less populated. Though stats will show, I presume, that the Southeast is the most crowded area of the UK, or one of the most, it is really only as you approach London. If you take the train from Hastings to Sevenoaks, say, even allowing for Tun Wells...
Absolutely, and this has not helped. Do not over a million children live in single parent households, so the logic here is that an extra million has had to be found.
The whole thing about building new houses is a compromise, but then, human nature being as it is, this is hard to achieve as folk see that they might lose what to them is precious. Country folk understandably want to keep their local pub and post office open, but try to prevent extra building...
