Corbyn’s childlike and simplistic argument? .....

Don't be frustrated. I'm not frustrated with your inability to grasp the argument that Britain may no longer be in a position whereby we need a deterrent. I grasp your argument as to why you think we do, but I just think you are wrong. We are never going to face the scenarios in Europe that you...

Corbyn’s childlike and simplistic argument? .....

I absolutely think that would be a waste of money. I also fully understand why some people feel that we do need a deterrent (a debate that has been raised on this thread as it naturally would given the subject being discussed.) I believed that myself a few years ago. Now, I feel the world has...

Corbyn’s childlike and simplistic argument? .....

You live in cloud cuckoo land. We no longer - in fact never have - live in a world where a country can have an independent nuclear war with another country. If one missile goes up in the air tomorrow, then they'll all be set off. End of. I do love the way you get so very cross on this forum...

Corbyn’s childlike and simplistic argument? .....

I understand what deterrent means. A bigger question is whether we need a deterrent. What are we actually deterring anyone from doing? Using nuclear weapons against us? Do you really think the situation would ever arise where Britain and let's say Iran were the only two countries having a spat...

Corbyn’s childlike and simplistic argument? .....

It's pointless anyway. We are never going to start a nuclear war, so if we did ever find ourselves in a position where our prime minister is pressing the button then you can be guaranteed that there would be missiles from other countries in the air already. If that's the case then we're all...

The point is that we are inconsequential in the nuclear debate. Our role in international affairs could be just as well played out without investing in Trident as it could be if we did invest in Trident.

Corbyn’s childlike and simplistic argument? .....

No I haven't. Der! "You have seen our soldiers go into battle..." Who are you? The Duke of Wellington or something? Politics - international - is fought in many different ways now. It's time we all moved on. Politics is shaped by the friends you keep. That's why we're happy to be a haven to...

Corbyn’s childlike and simplistic argument? .....

Look, the second London is about to be invaded or bombed then the whole f*cking world will be f*cked so there really will be little point in having had or not had the bloody bomb. We are not about to see conventional forces marching over the fields of Poland towards Germany because it's not in...

Corbyn’s childlike and simplistic argument? .....

The last line was clearly a joke. As I clearly state - American foreign policy doesn't work. Yes that does interest me (I guess I shouldn't have tried to employ sarcasm). However, our possession of Trident really won't change American foreign policy or anybody else's. The proof of that lies in...

Corbyn’s childlike and simplistic argument? .....

Not at all. As I said in a previous post, our biggest deterrent we use every single day. It's called London. Financial and cultural haven for Russians, Saudis, Qataris, Chinese etc etc. It's their back garden. Far more powerful than Trident.

Corbyn’s childlike and simplistic argument? .....

I have very little interest in what the American foreign policy is, short of the fact that it doesn't work. So, in answer to your question, I don't see our future relying on the Americans being prepared to use nuclear weapons on our behalf anymore than I see our future reliant on us defending...

Corbyn’s childlike and simplistic argument? .....

I really don't know how the Germans have survived without a nuclear deterent! Nor the Spanish... Italians. Swedes, Norwegians, Portuguese... etc.

They're already here. Have you been to Knightsbridge recently?

Corbyn’s childlike and simplistic argument? .....

But isn't the decision someone else's already? It's not ours. Britain is never going to be in a position whereby we are starting a nuclear war. That will be left to the Americans, the Russians and the Chinese. Not us. Bless us. Our best deterrent at the moment is being a peaceful financial...
