What ideology? Seeing that this was a plan originally proposed by Labour, passed through the council (with organised funding) by the Tories and implemented by the Greens; how it could have been implemented for ideological reasons?
There may be a lot of political differences between all three...
I was cycling behind a woman last night who had cycle lights on: when she stopped at the lights, she leaned over to switch them off. Why would someone do that?
If my light is broken, I won't cycle. Full stop. It's not worth the risk
Why is that? A multimillionaire who doesn't drive will contribute far more to the upkeep of roads than a motorist paying basic-rate tax. So, what BoF said was patently correct - don't see how that's clutching at straws
Sorry Ed. I just remember that when the scheme was scrapped there was some claim that only about three people had used it the last weekend (or something like that). I wasn't aware of the previous success.
Now that a certain football club has moved out, why can't the original scheme be resurrected?
To a certain extent that's what's happening. The cycle lane is providing an alternative and several bus routes have increased service. People have mentioned park and ride but to make that work, the council would have to make it impossible to park in central Brighton- there's enough fuss about...
There was but it was very narrow and if you wanted to overtake a cyclist, you had to cycle out into fast-moving traffic. You also got stuck behind buses and were in danger of being hit by cars turning into Coombe Rd.
Now it's wide enough to overtake; there are Danish/Dutch-style lanes on the...
The cycle lane is a joy to use: nice flat surface and it's now wide enough to overtake other cyclists. It's made my journey much easier, I don't praise the Tories too often but they did well getting this funded.
