Lovely to see you @Bozza
On mine I also had Pork Pies just to give the full picture. We both chose cheese by the way but there was an option for Cheddar or Blue Cheese or Ham or any combination of those three.
If I was to have a gripe it would be that the bread was not rustic, more a garlic...
To be fair it's right on the cusp of Durrington/High Salvington/Lower Salvington, so I decided to go with North Durrington. In hindsight it was a bit estate agency, but had I been selling a house there I'd have probably called it Findon :ROFLMAO:
The very friendly bar lady explained " a lot of people have been asking for that, but it's not a winter dish". Their principle on this appears to over rule their desire for money. I shall be lobbying for summer to start in February in North Durrington in future.
The Nachos and company were...
Good spot. HOWEVER, one of the recommendations was the Black Rabbit in Arundel. Great pub, great location, rubbish Ploughmans. So much so that when I last went they’d taken it off the menu.
That's the fella. It was on the tip of my tongue. Well actually it wasn't because I don't like it. But I accept it is a traditional element of a Ploughmans along with pickles.
Looks like a revisit to the Coach and Horses is on the cards but will definitely also check out the Royal Oak at Wineham. Presumably like all Royal Oak pubs it is names after the famous escape from the Parliamentarians of Charles II. Lovely.
To give you a guide as to where my head is at with this picture:
Bread - yes
Cheese - yes, but has to be English cheese
Pickle sauce - okay, but I personally don't like it
Pickled onions - yes
Gerkins - no, it's not a burger
Scotch egg - I could just about get on board with that being included...
I am with you on this. I thought a Ploughman's was bread, cheese, butter, maybe a pickled onion. However I once had a ploughmans that had no cheese. When I asked they said "oh you want a cheese ploughmans". Seems like an oxymoron but it's a thing apparently, hence the thread title.
Now this is funny. Me and Mrs Giraffe went there about a year ago and I agree it’s a decent ploughmans and the landlord was amusing.
The ploughmans comes with a pork pie, which after checking with the kitchen the landlord says they didn’t have but would I like a bit of ham instead. I said yes...
The internet tells me this is it. Decent but I’m not sure about that bread. I’d like a nice crusty bread and that looks a bit roll/bap/cob like. I appreciate this is a level of fussiness beyond every day problems.
Following on from our noble leaders hunt for the best onion rings, where is the best Cheese Ploughmans in Sussex?
This seems to be a dying offering with so many pubs either not offering a ploughmans or offering something that frankly is a poor imitation of the name.
Best in recent memory for...
