Has someone taken my suggestion to me barber? Who said it was bonkers! Glad to see it being taken to the league!
Last comment on this from me:
The fact that none of the 3 teams that narrowly missed out on automatic promotion (all last day), based on a long hard season, from all the national leagues, have even made a single final....shows the current playoff system needs 'adjusting' to more accurately...
How is weighting them based on a 40 game season not fair to the team that finishes 6th?
And we already do it in the fa cup and league cup knock out comps, higher league placed teams join later rounds.
Not sure re your point about its different between deciding 3rd play of or league champion- you are just trying to find a 'winner' (final promotion spot or something else).
And if a bunch of auz rules fans can follow the basis of it I'm sure us thick footy fans can...
Thats not the reason for suggesting changes, other than looking at our situation highlighted the 'unfairness' that can arrise to teams finishing higher - as has happened in the league one play off.
Most pundits also appreciate the system is flawed but enjoy the drama.
The weighted play off...
What's two seperate competions? League and play offs? Really?
The play offs would still exist.
And if we finished 6th next year and someone said: "you're 15-20 points behind 3rd (or 4th)...cos you won 5 less games than them...so you have to play an extra game or 2 to earn the shot at playing...
Nope, everyone knows the rules at start of the season and thats what you work within...question is what should those rules be?
Your son's suggestion isn't a million miles from my thinking...and that sounds better than current play-off syetem (in terms of fairness if not drama).
Someone pointed...
Right...so your definition of 'deserves' is based on 5-6 games in May (which could be effected by luck, injuries, slips in form etc)?
Its not sour grapes, i'm proud of Brighton - we didn't do enough in the end under this system, 89 points or not - end off as someone said.
I'm questioning if...
Not enough of an advantage in my view for 40+ game season (whether if benefits BHAFC or not)
6th can still win promotion ...they will just be a lot harder in the play offs as they didn't do enough over 40 games
Native - For me that too artificial - you don't play a match (90 mins) under a handy-cap system.
This is still best team over 90 mins. 6th can still go up and win on the day, but makes it possitively screwed to high finishing teams.
We effectively do this in the FA / league cup, by letting...
I don't think this would be more of a lottery, in fact the maths (if i worked it out) would show the probablity is more weighted in favour to the higher league finish (as has been under the McIntyre system.
1 leg gives home advantage to team finishing higher up league, time gap (could be done...
Not complaining - We knew rules at start and have benefited...doesn't mean system can't be improved going forward.
Under the above 6th could still win promotion...but would have to work harder than 3rd to obtain it.
Care to elaberate?
Obvi not off my rocker as this is similar the McIntyre System used throughout Australia (although not where the the idea came from)

We all know the play-off won't be scrapped as the games are to good / dramatic and make great...
I was thinking about this lying in bed after the first sh leg. As a neutral I love the excitement of the playoffs, but it is too much of a level playing field and doesn't take the seasons performance into account enough
So here's my thoughts on how we could retain the excitement of the...
