Here's photo that I took back in Aug 2010. The arches were still on trusses at that time. I have arrowed the ring of steel on the W and E stands. At this time I don't think the ring had been completed in the N and S.

Yes, the NS roof was attached before the trusses were taken down. If not, the arches would have tipped back. So basically, the two arches hold ALL the roof up. It's not like the John Smith's Stadium at Hudds where each stand has it's own arch.

The roof and arches work in tandem. But without that ring, none of it would work. Yes, there are pictures of the W and E in place, but the arches were held up at the time by roof trusses. The trusses could only be taken down once all the steelwork (including the ring) were in place.

The "ring of steel" is a complete ring passing through the roof struts. It's this ring that keeps the arches in place. If even the north stand roof is raised higher, then this ring will no longer be complete. This would then allow the arches to move back, causing the whole thing to collapse.

No chance, IMO. If you take the roof off one end, you have to take ALL the roof off. There is a ring of steel going all round the roof. This helps to hold the arches up, and the arches help hold the roof struts up. Take away any part of it, and the whole thing collapses.

Technically yes. But NOT here. The exits aren't big enough, amongst other things. This has been discussed many times before.
