She said 'Tell him to f*** off. I live the other side of the Pennines. Tell him to f*** off'.
(Actually, she has lived with me in Patcham since 1992, but I wasn't going to argue with her).
My wife says it definitely is a thing. Everyone uses 'Darren'.
I told her about you, and she said the ones you know are probably trying to compete with you by sounding posh.
There you go - your friends think you're posh. (y)
It is matter of interpretation. Mine differs from yours. For instance, the gravamen of Godwin's law is a comparison of Nazis and Hitler, the cause of the Holocaust. The comparison by @The Clamp referenced Jewish refugees (a manifestation of the Holocaust) and WW2 (the war in which it occurred)...
Did you know that the locals of Darwen pronounce it as 'Darren'?
Not a lot of people know that, unless you live around there, or are married to a woman from Accrington.
This has nothing to do with the thread title, but the horse has kind of bolted and is standing in a field in another...
Weak. I think your use of Godwin's law is tenuous to say the least, given Clampy didn't actually reference Hitler or the Nazis at all. I'm being kind here.
But it was you who mentioned Hitler and the Nazis in your post #205.
You yourself fulfilled Godwin's law and are trying to use it against someone, to whom it does not apply.
