Catering in stadiums - Target Field USA vs the Amex. Are you reading this PB ?

What, in the name of holy FRIG, has that got to do with discussing and comparing the catering between US and UK sports stadiums ? I think perhaps you've inadvertently wandered into the wrong thread. Try one of the ones about Trump.

Catering in stadiums - Target Field USA vs the Amex. Are you reading this PB ?

I paid $12 for 2 tickets at Target Field, 3rd tier up over 2nd base, marvellous panoramic view. I paid the same 2 days later for a rearranged afternoon game (rescheduled as the previous nights game had been washed out). There were only about 2,000 people there as it was a weekday afternoon, so...

Nope. I had a good look around the outside and in the club shop, but the daily tours were sold out till November.

Wow, you've done VERY well to get a ticket then chap. Although I've just had a few days in Chicago (they had a home series v the Cardinals) I didn't make a game there, much to my regret. Everywhere I looked in the city there were Cubs fans though, they are having an unprecedented season - their...

Product AND service, frankly. I know there are many who love and appreciate the Harveys on offer, and I'm not going to disparage that for a second (even though its not my particular choice). It IS excellent that a local brew is on offer, and long may that continue. I'll point out though, that in...

But its crapola. You've got a captive audience there. Just imagine how much more of a killing they'd make if the product was actually decent !

Catering in stadiums - Target Field USA vs the Amex. Are you reading this PB ?

Doesn't have to be small independents necessarily. But it seems to be the culture and the accepted wisdom in this country. "Sorry guv...can't be done". So we're stuck with the tripe. Well, it can be done, I've seen it now. I'm not saying like-for-like with a baseball experience, the parameters...

I couldn't agree more. Barber is never slow to impress on us how vital it is that we turn up early and leave late, taking in the catering options at the Amex to help the club. And I'd happily do that week in, week out. But I'm not going to be FLEECED by the cataclysmic shit they serve up, or the...

The pies are ok, I hadn't put them in the "shit" bracket, which the rest of the muck there undoubtedly is. If I'm backed into a corner and haven't eaten all day, then the pie is the only option I'd go for, although I still have to write off a good 20-25 minutes of socialising if I'm that...

Catering in stadiums - Target Field USA vs the Amex. Are you reading this PB ?

Put words in my mouth why don't you. At NO POINT did I say it was cheap there compared to the Amex. I acknowledged it wasn't cheap - but when you actually see what you're getting for your money in terms of the size of the portion, and the quality, it absolutely royally pisses all over ANYTHING...

Catering in stadiums - Target Field USA vs the Amex. Are you reading this PB ?

This is exactly my point. The crap we get at the Amex and everywhere else is indeed what we would expect from a stadium. Its the norm, its deemed acceptable. The bar is is set so desperately low, and we duley sink to it every time because its just what we expect at a stadium. Why ?

But then we don't have 81 regular home games a season do we.

Catering in stadiums - Target Field USA vs the Amex. Are you reading this PB ?

I certainly wouldn't expect to see as many options as are available at a US ballpark. But I don't think it would be much to ask to have more choice and better quality than what we currently have on offer. I think we've become so accustomed to our food at football grounds being shit and...

Catering in stadiums - Target Field USA vs the Amex. Are you reading this PB ?

Most of the stuff was between about $8-$12, although anything involving steak was obviously more. So no, nothing there was what you could call cheap. But then when you saw the amount you were getting for your dollar, and the quality of it, I don't think you could ever argue you weren't getting...

Catering in stadiums - Target Field USA vs the Amex. Are you reading this PB ?

Spot. On. In this country its all about providing the cheapest, lowest quality food, in the smallest possible portions, to make it just about worthwhile to tempt in enough desperate mugs to part with their cash to make it worthwhile. Captive audience = lets fleece them as far as we can push it...

Catering in stadiums - Target Field USA vs the Amex. Are you reading this PB ?

I'm not particularly fussed about eating or drinking during the game either, in fact I avoid it because the food is ridiculously expensive, utterly SHIT, and you have to queue for yonks to get hold of it, it so whats the point. There's no incentive there. Yes the game is of course the no1...

Catering in stadiums - Target Field USA vs the Amex. Are you reading this PB ?

Echos my views entirely. Having just experienced sport in the USA for the first time, I dunno how we've got it so wrong in this country. Its not just the Amex, there's nowhere I've been in football that offers anything even remotely close to what you can experience at a baseball stadium. Barber...

Catering in stadiums - Target Field USA vs the Amex. Are you reading this PB ?

Totally agree. In the remaining summer months of the season and then when spring arrives, it would be FANTASTIC to have some kind of tailgate party-esque thing going on outside around the Amex. Food outlets of all kinds, grills, beer tents. I'd happily turn up a couple of hours before kickoff to...

Catering in stadiums - Target Field USA vs the Amex. Are you reading this PB ?

I've acknowledged throughout that I know I'm not exactly comparing like with like, as baseball is such a different kind of sporting occasion to football - primarily the fact that the game is 3 hours+, so you have more of a "timespread" to cater for fans there, rather than the congested rush we...
