We don't know the full circumstances about the motivation and background of the individual that has murdered Jo Cox (despite assertions to the contrary from either faction). We do know that the recent background includes a major player in the referendum campaign saying this:

Blimey, with that kind of talk going on, literal minded folk could well be up for a bit of stabbing and shooting. How about we all try to be part of the solution, not the problem?

Apparently some internet sleuths have tracked down this document from 2010 which suggests that the assailant Thomas Mair has a history of mental health problems.
