What a surprise. Only GTR could realise with around 3 weeks to go that TL didn't have anywhere near enough drivers to fulfil the new timetable and have to desperately try to recruit drivers from Southern. But, it's all the staff's fault of course.
I genuinely don't know about this - could you provide a link to this? I'm not doubting you but would be interested about the nature of these payments. Or are you talking about staff being paid for training during their own time?
Then the doors always remain open (or released) on the front bit when detaching. The front portion doesn't move whilst the rear reverses. Only the rear portion's doors close. Fear not - you were safe.
Makes me wonder too. I understand how and why Aslef have got to this stage but I absolutely and fundamentally do not agree with them. The new t & cs are fine, the money is obviously good but doo is not and to lump all 3 things together is a big mistake. Not that belonging to a union is just...
Well I have voted a very definite "No". I think most of my colleagues down south have too but I expect it to go through. No amount of money will get me to shit on the disabled, vulnerable passengers, my colleagues and the rest of the passengers who may one day wonder where the guard is when they...
Correct. Not to the same standards that the guard used to be although they do have some safety training. That's of course if an OBS even appears. Doesn't matter how much safety training they have if they're not on the train at all.

Worth a read: especially:
40 The guard on train 2K04 was in the centre of the train when the derailment occurred. She walked forwards when the train stopped, but was unable to enter the leading coach...
Very much so - first I heard about it was a week or so ago. He's a very lucky chap and the driver has the other passengers to thank for avoiding a possible fatality and all that that entails. Thanks for posting.
If there was no guard and no one else around and this happened the chances of the driver seeing this happen on one of the 12 crappy cameras are next to zero. Lucky for this gentleman there were people around.
Well you clearly don't believe me when I've told you explicitly it's not about money. The financial side of that pay deal was excellent and I doubt any driver would have turned that down given the opportunity to vote for it but not with those conditions. And almost certainly we will get a lesser...
I've already answered in posts #6722 and clarified in post #6729 and here's the link about the judge's ruling: https://www.railnews.co.uk/news/2016/04/25-high-court-intervenes-in-gatwick.html So basically, I refuse to drive and face dismissal. But anyway, as you know, there is much more to this...
My guess would be the following:
"Good morning Mr Grayling? Any chance you will agree to guarantee the second member of safety critical staff on every train that had one at the start of the dispute?"
"No, none whatsoever"
"OK, thanks and goodbye. Strikes and overtime ban will be reinstated...
The ballot wasn't over the pay offer as such - i.e we didn't vote on whether to accept the pay increase but rather on the lack of an offer that didn't include the DOO etc terms and conditions changes.
Why - because a high court judge ruled against us so that if I refused to drive a DOO train the legal advice we have been given is that it would be grounds for dismissal.
Because in the very early days of the dispute a judge ruled that Gatwick Express drivers had to drive them and that precedent has been followed since with advice given by Aslef that we cannot legally refuse to drive them.
