Been listening to the brilliantly tilted 'Content Nausea' by side project Parkay Quarts -a gift from The man with the White Beard. Recorded on a four track cassette it's a perfect antidote to the seasonal crap around at this time of year. Can't recommend if highly enough.
Here are my favourite 10 tracks of the year in no particular order-
Sleaford Mods- Tiswaz
Sleaford Mods- A Little Ditty
Phantom Band- The Wind That Cried The World
Joanna Gruesome- Jerome
The June Brides- She Seems Quite Free
The Amazing Snakeheads- I'm A Vampire
Liars- Mess On A Mission
Slug-...
The trouble with EMA s album is that her first was just so good that my hope for the follow up was probably too high. This is unfortunately often the case. She is great live though and well worth seeing.
I am buying more music than ever before- all on CD or vinyl and seeing more live stuff but that's due to having more surplus cash now that my kids are older. I know what you mean about being demanding though. A few of my favourites have disappointed with their releases such as EMA and Mogwai...
Up until now my favourite Half Man Half Biscuit album has been Trouble Over Bridgewater. However Urge For Offal, the new album, could well be overtaking that position. The usual stuff, great songs and great lyrics about almost everything- a fortnights holiday in Devon, suicide and even a love...
Remember both of those but Disco 45 in particular. Clearly they had an appeal but can't see now in 2015 what was so special about being able to read the lyrics to the top thirty songs for that month. I did buy it though!
It's not as bad as it was pre 2010. Has had a bit of a makeover ( now the size of a magazine) and includes a good section called Radar which covers new bands. Album reviews I never trust as they will support whatever band they are promoting at the time. For example The Honeyblood album was given...
Thinking Avi Buffalo too. Possibly the slightly underrated Alvvays? Going to be a difficult time coming up with a top ten. A few disappointing albums 2014 especially the soon forgotten EMA and Mogwai efforts.
