[News] The future of faith: young people switched off?

Trying to assign a statistical probability to the Big Bang is pointless. There was no meaningful concept of time before it so in a way it had an infinite time-frame for it to occur.

You are a very odd person. It's a friendly term. Nothing more, nothing less. I use it often: etc...etc...etc You're clearly spoiling for a fight with someone. It's not going to be with me so you'll have to go trolling somewhere else, I'm afraid.

You've jumped in a bit too quickly giving it the biggun there matey . I'm not trying to get more people into believing in God. I'm not even sure if a God even exists. I've absolutely no idea where you've got that from. Do you want to try again and perhaps this time refer to something that i...

[News] The future of faith: young people switched off?

I'm going around in circles. Just look at most of the replies in this thread. Loads want to see an end to religion completely. They feel very strongly about that but when it comes to actually doing something themselves it's indifference. They want an end to Christianity but they can't even...

I don't think I am. I'm saying (repeatedly) that there doesn't have to be any association if you feel that strongly about it. Christians managed to change it from pagan to their god so I see no reason why atheists couldn't remove Christianity from this particular holiday/festival. If they're...

I acknowledged that they hijacked it and gave their names to it and we're perpetuating that by carrying on using those words. As long as we call it Christmas, we're associating it with Christianity. I'm genuinely baffled as to why people are saying it isn't.

[News] The future of faith: young people switched off?

Why do I need to explain anything about what is celebrated or why? I'm not trying to justify it, I'm just trying to say but not very well, that we're all keeping alive the importance of Christianity in our culture by continuing to call it Christmas. It's ridiculous to say that it's got nothing...

I was in Nativity plays three times and three times I was a shepherd. Dunno why but this has always bothered me. I reckon this is where I got it from. Anyway, did you hear about the dyslexic agnostic insomniac who lay in bed all night wondering whether there was a dog?

Fair enough and no offence intended. Personally, I'm agnostic but I do agree entirely with two very well-known atheists Douglas Murray and Richard Dawkins who describe themselves as 'culturally Anglican'. I like that description a lot.

Of course it isn't. But you said that you celebrate the Sun but we know that's not true. At Christmas you wish people a Merry Christmas. We all do it, atheists, agnostics, Christians, Jews, Hindus etc etc... you're joining in with a Christian festival that you don't believe in because it's nice...

Sorry but I think you are being hypocritical just a little bit. There's absolutely nothing stopping you from not celebrating Christmas at all. Even by regarding it as secular, you are still promoting and joining in a religious cultural event. This idea that you even need a register to record...

We both know that's not true. I'm well aware that Christmas and Easter are pagan dates subsumed into the Christian calendar but I bet you don't refer to solstices when wishing people season's greetings.

If youngsters can't be arsed with religion then fair play. If there's others who find great comfort and purpose through it then fair play to them too. It will always be around in some form or other. Christianity isn't followed in the UK in the same way as it is in the USA so it's incredibly...
