    [News] Drink driving - why?

Studies in Sweden suggest that you're wrong. Sweden used to have the toughest licensing laws in Western Europe and consequently extremely low drink-related deaths on the roads. As the licensing laws have been relaxed the number of drink-related deaths has increased and acutely so in the younger...

    [News] Drink driving - why?

I'm not sure that's a valid reason for having a 2 pint limit. If society thinks drink driving is so unacceptable that it needs a lower limit then country pubs will have to close. We implemented a ban on fox hunting, knowing full well that a lot of people could lose their jobs. Successive...

    [News] Drink driving - why?

It may be one of the highest but it's still v.low and for a lot of people a 20mg or 35mg level could well equate to the same thing - anything over a pint so it may be a moot point whether it's 20, 25 or 35. Also, that table of deaths attributable to drink suggests that the UK doesn't have a...

    [News] Drink driving - why?

If you think a car in front is a drink-driver then you need to call the police there and then. It could save a life.

Apparently Gibson has previous for drink-driving. Gibson, 27, was behind the wheel of his black Nissan Skyline GT-R Nismo when it ploughed...

    [News] Drink driving - why?

I might be wrong here but if it's the case that we don't enforce it as strictly or as often then we'd get disproportionately higher deaths from drink-drivers compared to other countries, wouldn't we? The figures don't back that up though...

    [News] Drink driving - why?

Genuine question - does that comment mean that you think it is not enforced as rigorously as it could be? I would say that it's one of the things that the British police are absolutely determined to enforce and with a zero tolerance approach.

    [News] Drink driving - why?

I've every sympathy with anyone with mental health issues. I've zero sympathy with anyone using that as an excuse for drink-driving. If he uses that as an excuse then he does a disservice to everyone else with MH problems and damages all the hard work trying to get mental health problems better...

    [News] Drink driving - why?

Trouble is that Ant (or Dec) and Darren Gibson are not exactly older generation though. I'd agree with your general argument though.

    [News] Drink driving - why?

Ant (or Dec) arrested for drink driving after hitting another car and hospitalising a young child in it. Footballer Darren Gibson writing off his Merc at the weekend and all those other selfish c-words who get into their car after a skinful every day of the week. I'm not a big one for grassing...
