I think that just about the only thing Tony Benn advocated that I agreed with was when he spoke about constitutional matters and the sovereignty of Parliament. It wasn't just a pet subject with him but underpinned everything that he believed in. His book 'Letters To My Grandchildren' is...
Once again, I'm in complete agreement with 1066familyman. Black people bleaching their skin is completely different to white people blacking up. For a start, blacking up is temporary and done for amusement. There's nothing funny about skin whitening.
Sadly, we live in a world where skin colour...
The two reports are at odds then. I must say though that a total figure of just 3000 abusive tweets for all Conservative female MPs in a six month period including an election year and where the Conservative leader is female is, shall we say surprisingly low.
Edit- I agree with you that she...
Because that report covered different times and didn't include the last general election . It was also possibly a time specifically picked when she was making one of her very many controversial statements about white people on an otherwise quiet news day. She's a race-baiter so it's no surprise...
I'm well aware of that report and said earlier that the narrow frame of reference doesn't paint the whole picture. Undoubtedly, the abuse she gets is horrible. It's symptomatic too of her being possibly the most divisive female MP around and of all MPs being abused daily.
That report into abuse...
Fair enough but I don't follow your argument that we used to laugh at the racists and Brexit has confirmed that they do behave in the way we mocked therefore we can't laugh at them anymore in the same way.
Sorry but that's rubbish. What has changed, and a lot of comedians have said this, is that modern sensibilities are far more sensitive and offence is taken much more often.
Of course there is but I haven't misrepresented it at all. If nothing else it shows the narrow focus of that Amnesty report give a the impression that male politicians are immune when they clearly are not. And the abuse that Abbott got compared to Johnson is directly comparable without any need...
And in the last election just months ago, male Tory MPs received far and away the most abuse if you're going by gender. Abuse is widespread, that Amnesty report doesn't give the whole picture. It also nails the myth that Boris and his ilk are not subjected to the same level of abuse...
Her race-baiting, her monumental hypocrisy and her political cowardice weren't a result of any medical condition though. She's a terrible politician. So is Boris. We're better off without both.
I could be wrong here but white folk definitely can't do it but black folk can because there's no historic racist connotations with whiting up. It would probably still be a bad idea because of the amount of grief it would inevitably attract.
Certainly not keeping abreast with modern sensibilities. I can't say I'm particularly bothered about people blacking up but I'm not black so doesn't really affect me. I've a mate however who is and I know it bothers him a lot. He's as far from a right-on liberal as you can get too so if it's...
