I follow Geoff Barrow on Twitter and his experience of the streaming sites is pretty scathing and if he's to be believed, Portishead make sod all from Spotify so what hope is there for the majority of artists?
Great to hear that Bandcamp gets the thumbs up. I've always like their ethos and...
On a serious note, can I ask what's your opinion of Bandcamp? I've always been a big fan as it appears to be the fairest website out there for musicians, I refuse to use Spotify or other streaming sites and instead buy the new music that I listen to but am interested to hear what the experience...
Ha! That's about par for the course for me! Always late to the party. It's new to me this year so I'm sticking with it but a real shame that they're messing about with line-ups. Never a good sign. It's the guitar riffs that make this song so epic. Love it.
Another big thumbs up for this. Thanks for posting it. The Cherry Glazerr track I mentioned previously is definitely my tune of the year.

Cheers. That's me sorted for what to listen to tomorrow morning. I always struggle more with selecting best tracks of the year than best albums of the year but one thing is certain, Cherry Glazerr's "I told you I'd be with the guys" will be in my top 3.
Fair enough. I didn't know that about them but even so, as long as the music is good then good luck to them. Take the Gorillaz, they're 'fictitious' too but no-one seems to mind. Major Lazer is another.
Moonlandingz were part of my top 25 (along with King Krull, King Gizzard, Lana Del Ray and Bonobo) and I've felt guilty about not putting them in my top 20. I'm surprised just how fleeting their success has been this year. For a month or two they looked like being the big new band of 2017 but...
Finally got around to compiling my list. Originally it was a top 40, then 25 and after some fairly difficult decisions it's down to a top 20.
1. Cigarettes After Sex - 'Cigarettes After Sex' Best described by my 15 yr old son as a theme/story album and I think he's spot on. Laidback, laconic...
Agreed and I'm v sorry about that.
I'm going to spend a bit of time thinking about mine but surprising omissions include The Fall, Fufanu, Flaming Lips, The Moonlandingz, UNKLE, Black Grape, Zola Jesus and Alt-J. It seemed at one point that Moonlandingz would sweep all in their path but...
Apologies. I skim read the reply and misconstrued it. I wasn't deliberately trying to shit-stir you here, I just read it wrong. Incidentally, whilst I'm sure we don't have much regard for each other's political views, when it comes to music, I do actually respect your opinions very highly.
I'd be surprised with St Vincent being too poppy for Radio 6/RT. The fact that neither she nor Fever Ray appear has more to do, I suspect, with how recently the albums have been released. I can't help but think there's an advantage in bringing an album out between April and August so that it's...
Ridiculous answer. Doubly so seeing as you started this thread and presumably spent some time looking at the list.
Just taking their top 20 albums from the list there are 13 solo artists named. 6 women and 7 men. Of the 6 women, 2 are non-white and of the 7 men, 3 are non-white. The top 3...
