See posts #70 and #77. Apparently it was 1999, not 1989 and the first article I read was wrong. Certainly more than enough people remember going there in the 1990s for me just to dismiss it as one or two of you having hazy memories! (Even though I still don't remember it being open!)
Yeah, I would have sworn blind that it wasn't there in the 1990's, but enough of you have memories of using it then so fair enough, I stand corrected. Also the Marina one didn't open until 1998 (I just looked it up) and I KNOW I took the kids bowling before then, so maybe I took them to the King...
Hmmm. You may be right. I got the date of 1989 from this article:
https://uktenpinhalloffame.co.uk/2018/06/29/history-of-tenpin-bowling-in-the-uk-part-3-king-alfred-lanes-hove-west-sussex/
However this one says 1999:

Yes. the bowling alley closed in 1989. I too thought the laser quest had taken over the same space, I was amazed to find it was still there. As you say it must be enormous down there.
Not sure if any of you have seen this in the Argus, it's about the abandoned bits of the King Alfred. Check out the photo gallery. I remember the bowling alley and the Laser Warriors thing; I'd assumed the space had all been re-used but no, apparently it was all just abandoned and left to rot...
