A proposed takeover, by a local businessman, has collapsed sadly. There was a lot of hope that it would go through this week, but he pulled out yesterday after discussions with the local council and a thorough examination of the club accounts. He was prepared to commit £1.5m immediately, but...
A positive meeting was held with a potential investor on Monday night, apparently from abroad who has proved he has at least £3 million in readily-available assets. Their game on Saturday is heading for a sell-out, and there's a bit more of a positive vibe than there was last week. There seems...
Got an update from my mate who is involved with the Supporters Trust. There were six potential investors interested, but they’re now down to two. The other four have pulled out after being given access to the club’s accounts. They are, apparently, in a colossal mess.
As bizarre as it sounds...
Agreed, given their current situation. My point was though that in principle it is not by definition extravagant for a team in a national league to have overnight stays for games at the other end of the country.
I don’t think overnight stays are particularly extravagant, especially if you’re a club playing in a national rather than regional league.
You’d really expect the Hartlepool squad to travel down to, say, Torquay and back in a day?
The club doesn't own the ground, so there's no risk of asset stripping for profit. The owners are inept, rather than anything more malicious. They don't want to put any more money in. In terms of new owners, there are six potential investors who have expressed a serious interest. The club needs...
I don't understand that the proximity of others clubs has to do with anything? People that support Hartlepool now are not going to suddenly convert into fans of other clubs is theirs goes bust. The town itself is massively committed to its club.
Agreed. I will be going along to their home game next Saturday, which has been designated as 'Save our Pools' day. I am also talking to someone on their Supporters Trust at the moment about how we might be able to help, as he happens to live a couple of doors down from me.
It is a good idea in theory, but the root of the causes of financial issues at a lot of clubs is poor management and decision making, and sometimes something a bit more shady than that. If a PL fund were to pay out the £200k to Hartlepool, that would only cover their bills as they are now. The...
By the sounds of it, there were some fairly questionable things going on under the previous regime (not the owners who are currently trying to sell the club).
The other issue is that if the club actually manages to raise the £200k before the deadline, all that is going to do is cover the bills currently outstanding. What about February, March, April and so on?
The club either needs a new owner ASAP, or administration and allow the Fans' Trust to take...
I believe in their case it will involve automatic relegation from the National League (including the regional sub-division), so they'd be looking at Northern League football I'd reckon. I think the days of a simple points deduction are gone.
As I live about 5 miles from Hartlepool, I've got a few friends who are STHs. The feeling is that they will get nowhere near this target, and everyone is preparing for admin.
