Why can't they? Tickets for every home game have been freely available either for people buying for themselves or for season ticket holders buying for a friend. I can't see why anyone who wants to get to the Amex would have been unable to do so.

It's better than one where someone jumps ahead of thousands of people on a waiting list just because they (or their parents) decide that they want to go now.
